“Oaklings”
In Isaiah 60, God creatively portrays himself as our gardener and speaks of his people: “They are the shoot I have planted, the work of my hands, for the display of my splendor”. These impressionistic oak sprigs take on profound meaning when we see ourselves as the little “oaklings” whom God hand-plants with an intentional plan in mind for our own growth, strength, and beauty. The well known imagery of God’s people as “oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified" in Isaiah 61 confirms that God’s plan for his ultimate glory is one that includes our flourishing. Just as a gardener tends to each plant with care and foresight, God gently and purposefully plants us in the soil of life. My hope is that these pieces will inspire you to embrace his sovereignty, trusting his promise to care for you as a humble oakling, to eventually display his splendor through you as a mighty oak of righteousness.
